What's New?

Congratulations to

Dr. Michaela Hynie

and

Carolyn Steele Gray!

Recipients of the

  Evaluator Excellence Award 2011.

Michaela Hynie, PhD, Associate Director, York Institute for Health Research,

Program Evaluation Unit

Dr. Hynie is a social psychologist in the department of Psychology at York University and associate director of the York Institute of Health Research (YIHR).   In 2007, Dr. Hynie founded the YIHR Program Evaluation Unit, which conducts and builds capacity in program evaluation in the health and social service sectors.

Carolyn Steele Gray, PhD Candidate, University of Toronto

Carolyn Steele Gray is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto in the department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation.  Her thesis work focuses on accountability in the home and community care sector in Ontario.

Dr. Hynie and Carolyn Steele Gray are granted the Evaluator Excellence Award 2011, by acclamation, based on their work in the following evaluation project.

The “Healthy Eating for Mental Health” project began in November 2009 and ended in March 2011.  The evaluation process was designed as an evolving self-reflection process for both the Minding Our Bodies project team and the service providers. The evaluators used a number of ways to gather information, including site visits, interviews and surveys conducted with staff, focus groups with staff and participants, and reviewing documentation and project materials.

In addition to the evaluation of the overall MOB program, each pilot site conducted its own internal evaluation, followed up by an external evaluation by YIHR. The final evaluation incorporates the internal pilot site evaluations and the external evaluation data into a case study for each site. The sites were provided with the results of their case study reports and given the opportunity to contribute their feedback.
