Call to join the CES Credentialing Board
A message from the CES Credentialing Board:

 As you know, the CES Credentialing Board (CES-CB) is the decision-making body for the Professional Designations Program. As a number (about 15) of CB members’ terms will expire in June 2019, there is a need to replace them with appropriately qualified senior evaluators, to maintain no more than 25 and no fewer than 20 active CB members. Going forward, a few new CB members will be required each year.

Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for CB members are both of:

1. Credentialed Evaluator for at least five years, and therefore a current CES member.This includes international members;and
2. Senior evaluator with at least 15 years of experience in the field. This may have been gained through a combination of: conducting, managing or supervising program evaluations; publishing, teaching, and/or advocating.

Note, however, that in order to enable appropriately diverse composition of the Board as a whole,1the CB Selection Committee will use its discretion in determination of eligibility, based on information in the applications received.

Terms and Responsibilities

CB members serve for three-year terms, renewable twice (maximum nine years). They are tasked with considering the merits of members' application for credentialed status, through confidential review, and making fair, timely and objective decisions on applications and appeals for the designation using guidelines and criteria established by CES National Board. They are also asked to provide meaningful and substantive input into the ongoing management and development of the PDP. As knowledgeable and experienced experts recognized as such by CES, CB members act as ambassadors for the CES and the PDP in professional exchanges within the evaluation community domestically and internationally.

Currently, the 20-25 active CB members review approximately 4.5 applications per year using an online system. There is a 15-day service standard in which to complete reviews once assigned. Members may decline reviews if their schedule does not allow completion of a review in that time, and may remove themselves from active status when necessary. In order to reduce barriers for CB membership, members are entitled to an honorarium-type per diem; the current rate is $150 per review plus applicable taxes. CB members are also recognized on the CES website. Terms of the CB members selected though this process are expected to begin in summer 2019. New members will receive training and be mentored by current CB members.

Application and selection processes

To verify the eligibility of potential applicants in terms of their date of CE award, please contact the PDP Applications Administrator at aaprofdes@evaluationcanada.ca. Applicants are asked to please send the following documents to CES National Operations Manager, Scott Kettles, at operations@evaluationcanada.ca:

-Completed cover sheet (attached) documenting identity characteristics for diversity purposes;
-Current CV;
-Maximum two-page letter describing: interest in being on the CB; range and variety of evaluation knowledge and experience (CB members are expected to be able to review CE applications from across the entire range of evaluation practice approaches, types and settings); contribution to increasing quality of evaluation in Canada (through professionalization, supporting next-generation evaluators, field advancement, or other means);
-Letter of reference from a current CES member.

These are the criteria on which applications will be assessed. As well, CES is committed to ensuring that overall, the composition of the CB reflects the diversity of the membership of CES and the field.

Applications are due by June 21, 2019

All applications received will be acknowledged. The CB Selection committee, composed of representatives of the current CB, CES national Board, and the CES Diversity Working Group, will review, in a structured and confidential process, all applications and recommend the selected applicants for approval to the current CB and CES National Board. All applicants will be given feedback, and candidates not selected this year may be asked to be part of a bank of candidates for future years.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Natalie Kishchuk, CES Vice-President for Professional Designations, at vicepresident@evaluationcanada.ca.
