Data visualization as a hot topic in the evaluation world, especially in knowledge transfer activities. The interactive and multi-modal workshop will focus on a specific type of data visualization, namely infographics – artistic or graphic presentation of data to communicate insights. We will briefly orient infographics in the realm of data visualization, illustrating the different types of infographics. Then our focus will shift to the science of why we use infographics in communicating to our various audiences (clients and funders). We then venture into design theory, calling on the works of data visualization experts Bernard Marr, Stephanie Evergreen, Garr Reynolds and Edward Tufte. The bulk of the time will be aimed at specific design elements of graphics, colour, and font, which provide the visual cues to our most important element: the data. We will then put these elements together with examples, and then look at resources and tools for infographic production. The session will conclude with a short question period.

April 10: CES Webinar: Revised CE Competencies

Presented by Natalie Kishchuk, VP-PDP

Date/Time:  April 10, 2019 from 12 pm to 1 pm Eastern Daylight Time (English); April 24, 2019 from 12 pm to 1 pm Eastern Daylight Time (French)

From the CES National website:

This webinar will present the updated CES Competencies for Canadian Evaluation Practice. One of CES’s key roles is to contribute to the professionalization of evaluation practice. While the Competencies were developed as part of CES’s Professional Designation (Credentialing) Program, they provide a much broader foundation for any CES member, regardless of whether they have elected to become a CE. The webinar will present a brief history of the Competencies development and updating. It will highlight the main changes from the previous version, as well as CES’s hopes and expectation for the use of the competencies by CES members. The 40-minute presentation will be followed by a Q&A period.

Registration for this webinar is free for CES members. Find out more on the CES website.
